Plaster work with Franco

When Franco came to The American College of the Building arts it was an honor to work with him. Although I only got to work with Franco for one day I learned so much from him. It was interesting to look at the different samples he had done one the wall in the basement. I loved learning about how the natural materials used for walls are so much healthier because dust and dirt will stick to artificial materials. When you use natural materials for walls it is easier to keep clean.

It was also wonderful to actually get to try out some plasterwork! Franco taught me how to combine pressure with movement to get the wall flat. It was interesting how quickly things had to be done in order to finish to wall completely before the plaster dried. Also he taught me how to properly use the sponge on the wall so that the plaster would dry very smooth, and without any makes of visible strokes left from the trowel.

Franco showed us different examples of how the plaster would turn out differently according to how thick or how fine the plaster was before it was mixed. He showed us and example of very fine plaster and it was beautiful!

Working with Franco was a great introduction to plaster. I learned atoll from him and strive to someday be as talented as him. I would love to have another opportunity to work with him, it was a blessing.
